5 Layer Baked Hummus Dip Recipe

Base Layer: 16 oz container of your favorite hummus flavor (classic, roasted garlic, roasted red pepper all work well)

Meat Layer: 1 lb ground beef, ground turkey, or plant-based meat alternative

Spice Layer: 1 tbsp taco seasoning (or your preferred spice blend)

Veggie Layer:

  • ½ cup diced bell peppers (any color)
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Cheese Layer: 1-2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese (or cheddar, Monterey Jack)

Optional Toppings

  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced black olives
  • Chopped green onions/scallions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa

  • Large skillet
  • Oven-safe dish (9×13 inch baking pan or similar size)

Prep the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground meat of your choice. Drain any excess grease. Add the taco seasoning or your preferred spice blend and mix well.

Sauté the Veggies: In the same skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the diced bell peppers and onion. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until softened and slightly browned.

Assemble the Dip

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In your baking dish, spread the hummus evenly across the bottom, creating the first layer.
  • Top the hummus with the cooked and seasoned meat.
  • Next, add the sautéed bell peppers and onions.
  • Generously sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top to form the final layer.

Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.

Add Toppings (Optional): Once out of the oven, top with any desired toppings like tomatoes, olives, green onions, cilantro, a dollop of sour cream, and/or a side of salsa.

Serve: Serve warm with your choice of tortilla chips, pita chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Get Creative: Customize the layers to your taste. Try roasted red peppers, a layer of black beans, or different types of cheese.

Make it Vegetarian: Omit the meat and add a layer of refried beans or seasoned black beans.

Spice it Up: Add some chopped jalapeño to the veggie layer or use a spicy hummus for an extra kick.

Make Ahead: Assemble the dip (up to the cheese layer) a few hours in advance or even the day before. Store covered in the refrigerator. Sprinkle cheese on top just before baking.

Enjoy your hot, cheesy, and satisfying hummus dip!
