  • 2 large yellow or sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

1. Caramelize the Onions

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.

  • Let the onions cool slightly.

2. Make the Dip

  • In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder until smooth and creamy.
  • Gently fold in the cooled caramelized onions.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

3. Chill and Serve

  • Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.
  • Serve with your favorite potato chips, sturdy crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Onion Choice: Yellow or sweet onions like Vidalia are best for caramelizing due to their higher sugar content.

Low and Slow: The key to perfect caramelized onions is low heat and patience. Don’t rush the process!

Make-Ahead: French Onion Dip tastes even better when made a day ahead so the flavors really meld.

Optional Garnishes: Sprinkle with chives or parsley for a touch of freshness.
