Boston Market Stuffing Recipe

  • 7 cups stale sourdough bread, crusts removed and cubed (or substitute with your favorite stale bread).

  • 1½ cups chopped celery stalks
  • 5½ oz chopped yellow onions
  • 3 oz sliced carrots
  • ½ lb sliced Swiss brown mushrooms (or cremini mushrooms)

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • ½ tbsp dried sage
  • ½ tbsp dried rosemary
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped parsley
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

  • 1 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 2 large eggs

Prep the bread:

  • If your bread isn’t already stale, cut it into cubes and leave it out overnight or toast it lightly in the oven to dry it out.

Sauté the vegetables:

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the onions, garlic, celery, and carrots. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and translucent.
  • Add the mushrooms, sage, and rosemary. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms have released their liquid and are soft.

Combine ingredients:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables, bread cubes, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and eggs.
  • Pour the broth mixture over the bread and vegetables. Mix gently until the bread is evenly coated.

Chill (optional):

  • For optimal flavor absorption, cover the bowl and refrigerate the stuffing for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Transfer the stuffing mixture to the baking dish. Cover with foil.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through.

  • Breadcrumb boost: For added texture, replace 1-2 cups of the bread cubes with packaged, unseasoned breadcrumbs.
  • Flavor variations: Experiment with other herbs and spices like thyme, poultry seasoning, or a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
  • Make-ahead: Assemble the stuffing a day in advance and bake just before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Boston Market-inspired stuffing!
