Yields: 2 Servings
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 5-7 Minutes

Oatmeal Base

  • 1 cup rolled oats (not instant or steel cut)
  • 1 cup milk (any kind – dairy, almond, soy, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Cookie Dough Flavor

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, for extra indulgence)

  • 1/2 cup dried cherries, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds

1. Cook the Oatmeal: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the oats, milk, water, and salt. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.

2. Reduce and Thicken: Reduce heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the oatmeal has thickened to your desired consistency.

3. Flavor: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract, almond extract, and brown sugar until well combined. If you’re using them, gently fold in the mini chocolate chips.

4. Assemble: Divide the oatmeal into two bowls. Top each bowl with chopped dried cherries and sliced almonds.

5. Enjoy! Serve warm for the ultimate cookie dough-inspired breakfast treat.

Customize it: Use fresh cherries if they’re in season. Substitute the almonds for another type of nut if you prefer.

Make Ahead: Prepare the oatmeal base the night before and store it in the refrigerator. In the morning, simply reheat and add your flavorings and toppings.

Sweetness: Adjust the amount of brown sugar to suit your desired level of sweetness.
