Chicken Seasoning Recipe

Yields: About 1/4 cup
Prep Time: 5 minutes

  • 1 tablespoon paprika (use smoked paprika for an extra flavor kick)
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a touch of heat)

  • Measure and Combine: In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients.
  • Mix thoroughly: Whisk the ingredients together until everything is evenly blended.
  • Store: Transfer the seasoning to an airtight container or a small jar with a lid. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.

How to Use Your Chicken Seasoning:

  • Rub: Use 1-2 tablespoons of the seasoning per pound of chicken. Pat the chicken dry and generously rub the spice mixture all over the meat.
  • Marinade: Mix a few tablespoons of the seasoning with olive oil, lemon juice, or your favorite marinade base. Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight.
  • Sprinkle: Sprinkle the seasoning on chicken before roasting, grilling, or pan-frying.

Customization Tips

  • Spice it up: Add more cayenne pepper or a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra heat.
  • Herby twist: Use other dried herbs like rosemary, basil, or Italian seasoning instead of oregano.
  • Citrusy touch: Add a teaspoon of dried lemon or orange zest.
  • Sweet and smoky: Include a tablespoon of brown sugar for a touch of sweetness.

Important Notes:

  • Adjust salt: Start with a smaller amount of salt and add more to taste as needed.
  • Fresh is best: For the most vibrant flavor, consider using freshly ground black pepper.
