Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies Recipe

For the Cookie Dough:

  • 1 stick salted butter (1/2 cup, softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For the Brownie Layer:

  • 18.9-ounce package brownie mix (your favorite brand)
  • Ingredients required for the brownie mix (as listed on the package, typically vegetable oil, eggs, and water)

Make the Cookie Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer, cream together the softened butter and both sugars until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just incorporated. Avoid overmixing.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips using a rubber spatula.

Prepare the Brownie Batter:

  • Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the brownie mix package (typically 350°F). Grease an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the brownie batter according to the instructions on the brownie mix package. This usually involves mixing the brownie mix with oil, eggs, and water.

Assemble and Bake:

  • Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough on top of the brownie batter, spreading them out to cover as much of the surface as possible. You can use all the cookie dough or reserve some for baking cookies later.
  • Bake the brownies for 28-32 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.

Cool and Enjoy:

  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.
  • For cleaner cuts, you can place the pan in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before slicing.

  • For an extra decadent treat, sprinkle some extra chocolate chips or chopped nuts on top of the cookie dough before baking.
  • If you don’t have brownie mix, you can make your own brownie batter from scratch. There are many recipes available online.
  • To make the cookie dough even chewier, use brown sugar instead of white sugar in the cookie dough recipe.
  • Let your cookie dough chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before using. This will help the cookies keep their shape when baking.

Enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate chip cookie brownies!
