Lemon Sour Cream Waffles Recipe


Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (from about 2 lemons)

Wet Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For Serving (optional):

  • Maple syrup
  • Fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc.)
  • Whipped cream
  • Powdered sugar


  • Prep the waffle iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to its instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or butter, if needed.
  • Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and lemon zest.
  • Mix the wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, melted butter, milk, lemon juice, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine the batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined (don’t overmix).
  • Cook the waffles: Pour the recommended amount of batter (usually about 1/2 to 3/4 cup) onto the hot waffle iron. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve and enjoy: Serve immediately with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.


  • Don’t overmix the batter: Overmixing can lead to tough, dense waffles. Gently stir until the ingredients are just combined.
  • Let the batter rest: For extra fluffy waffles, try letting the batter rest for 5-10 minutes before cooking.
  • Customize with toppings: Get creative with toppings! Chopped nuts, a drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of cinnamon can be delicious additions.
