Skillet Tater Tot Casserole Recipe (No Condensed Soup!)

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (15oz) can corn, drained
  • 1 (15oz) can green beans, drained
  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1 bag (32oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a large oven-safe skillet or a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Cook the Beef: Heat your skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion and cook until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease if needed.
  • Season and Simmer: Add the garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir well and let simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Add Veggies and Sour Cream: Stir in the drained corn, green beans, and sour cream. Combine everything thoroughly.
  • Layer Tater Tots and Cheese: Spread the beef mixture evenly in your prepared skillet or baking dish. Top with an even layer of frozen tater tots followed by the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, or until the casserole is heated through, the tater tots are golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let Rest and Serve: Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows it to set slightly for easier slicing.

  • Mix It Up: Easily add mushrooms, bell peppers, or your favorite veggies to the filling.
  • Cheese Please! Use your favorite cheese variety or a combination of cheeses for different flavors.
  • Spice It Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick.
